Sharpening in Photoshop Elements

I'm doing a lot of processing of old photos for an ebook about my brass band. The photos are often slightly blurry, and I came across an interesting method for improving their look for the book:
In Photoshop Elements:
- Duplicate layer
- Filter / Other / High Pass
- Use a radius of between 4.0 and 5.0
- ok
- Change layer blending mode from Normal to Overlay
